Four of the eight main processors, the "efficiency cores" are ultra low-power; they share the simpler tasks and can operate continuously with very little power demand. The four other processors - "performance cores" - provide extra high performance when it is needed. This results in up to a 2.8-fold increase in performance over the previous model, with much lower average power consumption.
